Goddess in a Trap
DEVI is an aching tour de force, a family drama centering around a faith vs. reason debate. Ray daringly addresses a variation of the Oedipus complex, where a feudal father-in-law, by declaring that his beautiful daughter-in-law is the Hindu goddess Kali incarnate, and worshipping her, in a sense, “obtains” his daughter-in-law for himself.
